Just had to do a bit of celebrating here as this old fart finally hung it up at Pontiac Enthusiast. Why am I so happy? Well seemingly every chance he got he ragged on the new GTO, and it's bland styling and blah blah blah. Every time I read his editorial my blood pressure would go up. And now I see in my latest issue that he is hanging it up, HOORAH!!! :woot:

The more of these old hard-headed traditionalists that hang it up means less cr@p we have to read about retro this or hood scoop that on the new Goats.

Hearing that made my day. Hope he enjoys his retirement!

I agree with you orbit that old fart was totally hating on the new goat for its "bland" styling but he seemingly missed the whole "most powerful" gto ever produced fact and emphasized the wrongs instead of the rights and I just gotta say it Dont hate the player hate the game :P Hope the old fart enjoys retirement one less hater out there :friday:

I know that opinions are just that. I do find it interesting though that there is so much of the nostalgia craze going on around cars and styling. And, if something doesn't harken to the 'good ole days', there is something wrong with it. I am 58 and clearly part of the 'good ole days' for muscle cars from a generation standpoint. But, gotta tell you, I love a lot of the new styling and trends. I loved the GTO in its first years, I was a red-blooded American teenager at the time, why wouldn't I love them. But, I moved on.................if folks want a retro GTO, buy a 1964-1966 or thereabouts and knock your bad self out. Dollar for dollar, design-for-design, I think that Mr. Lutz et al did a good job of finding a way to deliver a good looking, fine handling, excellent performing, well appointed interior automobile for a very fair price (even without the discounts we enjoyed). I drive to work, everyday, with a smile on my face, as I run through the farmland backroads, doing the twisties, accelerating out of turns, listening to the sound of the fine LS1 rumbling through my CORSA Sport, sucking in huge amounts of air through my LPE. And, getting 20+ (yes, I really do) mpg. Tell me how this car is a disappointment and pales compared to the good ole days?
