Buying A GTO. Help Me Decide.

Alright, So Evidently I'm New Here. I'm Looking To Buy A GTO In the Coming Months. Looking To Buy A Used One. Main Thing I Know About Them Is The 2004 Is The LS1 And The 2005-2006 Is The LS2. Which Would Be A Better Choice? I Want To Get A Manual, 6-Speed Transmission. I Have Been Thinking About The 2006. I Plan To Do A Few Mods To It. I.E., Exhaust, Intake, Body Kit, Audo, Supercharger, And Maybe Rebuild The Transmission With Better Gear Ratio. I Will Be Going To The Coast Guard BMT In A Matter Of Months, And This Will Be My Car Once I'm Stationed. A Gift From My Father. I Mean, MPG Is Important, But Its Not Like Im Expecting 35+ Or Anything. So What Year Is A Better Choice In Your Opinion?

LS2 provides a 50hp advantage over the LS1 right off the bat. There are other minor differences between the various years, but that's the big one.

The only reason I would consider a 2004 over a 2005/2006 would be cost. It's just boils down to what you can find in your local used market.

Regarding MPG ... keep your expectations VERY low ... were talking "teens" around town.

Alright. So Yeah. MPG Wasn't A Huge Factor, And Im Expecting More In The Performance Area. So Is There Any Differences In The 2005 And 2006s?

There's not much of a difference between the two. The biggest difference is 05 has red tail lights and 06 has black.

Save up your money and import a Holden Commodore SSV and be the coolest guy in America. Go to holden.com/au and you'll find out why.

If buying a GTO and you are definately going to mod it, then get the 04. That 50hp deficit is quickly gone with a few mods. The 243 heads off the ls2 make up a lot of that ground. If you really want the hood scoops and the rear dual exit exhaust, get the 05-06.
