Lightbulb Throttle Body?

Okay, this is going to sound really basic but I want to get an understanding about this. I have been looking at throttle bodies and have come across many difference sizes. My question is can a throttle body be purchased by itself? I have the K&N CAI so I believe that will work with mostly any throttle body. However, I wasn't sure if when I got a new throttle body - do I have to change the intake manifold to a different size too?

Another stupid question, in a 76mm and a 92mm throttle body. Does this refer to the size of the opening? Hense, is a 92mm throttle body better because it has more air flow than a smaller, 76mm throttle body?

Thanks.

Normal sizes are 78mm for LS1 (04), 90mm (05-06) for LS2. Which engine do you have?
If you've got the 90mm there is no reason to go up in size.

If you've got a 90mm you don't want aftermarket, just have it ported, polished if you want it shiny. If you have an 04 78mm, just have it ported unless you want to go bigboy upgrades.

an intake as a mod on a car with stock heads and cam would be a total waste of money with no benefit at all. it's this way. the engine is an air pump. when a portion of the system from the intake to the exhaust gets air flow exceeding it's ability it becomes a bottle neck that when upgraded increases air flow and increases power. the 78mm TB can flow more than enough air until those bigger mods are done. the bottle necks are elsewhere.... and to answer your question you could use the stock LS6 manifold up to one like the BBK 80mm TB. if you go larger you need to upgrade the manifold to one like the FAST 90mm with a 90mm TB. that would be a huge drop of coin ($1,000) for very little gain. put on headers if you haven't done that yet, then a cam, then heads, then a cat back and THEN get an intake/TB
