Thumbs up Saw a 66/67 out on highway today

On my way into town I saw a 66/67 GTO headed the opposite direction. (Pretty sure it was a 66 but I didn't notice as I was shocked just to see one out) Gave him a big thumbs up and he waved back. Nice to see a little good will between generations out in their Goats.

Anyone else see a classic Goat out on the highways recently?

In fact this week and weekend, I saw the same one. It was a beautiful '66 GTO. It's a bright orange with a little rake to it. Saw him Friday downtown and came up next to him and yelled,"Hey nice old Goat!" And with a big old smile he said thank you. I sometimes miss my old '69, but all I have to do is go for alittle ride in my new one, and I'm in my happy place.

Ya know, guys....there were a TON more of those years made (GTO's) than our years. TONS more. In fact, I do believe that in 1968 they made more GTO's than standard LeMans's.

The most recent classic GTO I've seen on the road is my Dad's freshly restored 66. I love my 06 but I get chills up my back when I drive the 66. Of course, that could just be from the whole car shuddering at idle! I tried to post some pics but they're too big.

The car hasn't always been so nice. For those who are interested, you can check out the entire build up, be sure to look at the sub-albums.

SC... How long did it take your dad to restore the GTO?
It sure is a beautiful car and I bet it's a blast to drive.

My dad is 90% finished resto/modding his 50 GMC Pick-up... it's taken him about 10 years. (because some years he was not able to work on it).

It took about 10 months total. One of my co-workers does paint and bodywork at his house and my Dad hired him to do the entire car.

The color is 1966 Pontiac Barrier Blue Metallic. The engine is a Pontiac 400 (20 or 30 over, I'm not sure) with original 1967 428 heads and forged aluminum pistons, Holley 750 double pumper, and Hedman full-length headers. Street/strip built 400 Turbo with 2000-2200 stall. 3.55 posi. Four wheel disc brakes, Hotchkis suspension kit, and quick-ratio steering.

Yes, it is a blast to drive. The 66 is quicker off the line than my car, being lighter, well over 400 lbs of torque, and there is no clutch to deal with. My 06 will run it down in about 100 yds, with twice as many gears and closer ratios, it's easier to keep in the fat part of the powerband.
