How much would you spend on a 1971 Gold Firebird, honeycomb rims, but has a 400 instead of 455? The owner swapped the engines from his 71 Judge to the Firebird. Still runs, but needs new brakes though. Other than that, pretty good condition.

Edit: Oh yeah it's an automatic.

I'd still need a little more information to give a guess. One person's "pretty good shape" is different from another person's. One might think it's fine, the other a piece of junk. How about actual mileage? Rust? Interior condition? Has it been wrecked? Has it had a cheapy respray? A lot of factors go into it. More info and someone might be able to give you a rough estimate.

Also, I might be wrong, but I thought all 71 Judges had the 455 engine, not the 400. So that 400 could very well be a smogger mid 70's 400 out of a GP or LeMans or some other pedestrian vehicle. You might want to check the engine codes on it. Just some thoughts but it would be hard to tag a price on it without knowing a bit more.

No rust, its been kept in a woman's garage for about 10 years. It's my father's car, and he's the only mechanic that's ever worked on it. The lady brought it to him in 77, had never changed the oil since purchased in 71. He took that engine out and put his gto engine in it (he says it was a judge, but it may not have been, though I know it's a 400.) He bought the car from her back when she put it in storage in her garage. Has less than 36,000 miles, the woman only drove it back and forth to work. And hasn't been driven except to our house (less than 5 miles, and just move it every now and then so the neighbors wont try to get it towed)

Edit: Forgot original paint, interior, etc. But the seats need to be reupholstered?? (sp?) Black interior, Leather bucket seats.

what documentation do you have on the Firebird?
any documentation from PHS (Pontiac Historical Services)?
Is it a "base" car, an Esprit, Formula or a Trans Am?
Do you plan on restoring it or using it as a 'driver'?
BTW, no early second gen F-cars had leather from the factory, interior was a vinyl material only.

Sounds like the Bird lies somewhere between a #3 and #4 condition wise. IF it were verified by PHS and was a condition #3 maybe $6000 or so for a base,Espirit or Formula (give or take on condition) If a #4 maybe $3000 (give or take). Add about a $1000 more if it's a verified Trans Am.

Not seeing the car I couldn't venture a better guess but from the sounds of it (needing some work and an unknown 400 engine, I would personally have a hard time dropping more than 4 grand unless it was a documented numbers matching TA or was in fantastic shape.

Maybe someone else who has bought/sold an early 2nd gen Firebird recently might be able to shed some light on it.

You could always go to ebay or another online collector car service and compare your vehicle to the prices of some other similar 71 Firebirds. Just a thought.

Just trying to help.

Most I would give would be $4000 in mint condition...they are going up in price now.
